Sunday March 1, 2015: Leo Carrillo Beach to Nicholas Pond

Description:
This hike is 7 miles round-trip with 1700 feet uphill elevation gain. This is a great hike with amazing views of the Pacific Ocean along with beautiful sea cliffs adjacent to the sea and, of course, the PCH. We will take Willow Creek trail then a loop around Nicholas Flat then on to the big pond at the top of Nicholas Canyon and back down via Nicholas Flat trail. There is a temporary toilet at the trailhead.
WHAT TO BRING: Two liters of water, lunch, snacks, hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, hiking boots or shoes with good traction, daypack, hiking poles/sticks, shorts and a T-shirt or long pants and long sleeved shirt, depending on weather. Clothes should be loose fitting, and light-colors are preferable
FOOTWEAR: Hiking boots or shoes with good traction. Absolutely no sandals or open toed shoes.

Meet in Sherman Oaks at the corner of Riverside Dr and Hazeltine Ave (between Woodman and Van Nuys Blvd). Meet on Riverside Avenue on the south side, across from Trader Joes and Stansbury avenue at the driveway entrance to the Sunkist building located at: 14130 Riverside Dr, Sherman Oaks, CA 91423. Form your own carpools and please share the cost of transportation and parking, if any, with the driver.

DIRECTIONS FROM THE SAN FERNANDO VALLEY:
Take 101 west to Las Virgenes Rd / Malibu Canyon then right on PCH and go 14 miles to the intersection with Mulholland Highway. We will meet at the park entrance driveway on the north side of PCH which is 1000 feet east (before) the intersection with Mulholland highway where the “Leo Carillo State Park” sign is on PCH by the entrance to the park.
PARKING: You can either pay to park at the State Park or park for free along PCH.

CONDITIONS TO PARTICIPATE!!!!
Please allow plenty of time flexibility when participating in our hikes / activities!
If you are unsure of your fitness level please join us on one of our easier hikes before doing any advanced hikes. We would recommend that you can walk at least 6 miles before coming on any of our hikes.
It is not appropriate to RSVP for an event and not show up. Members can be terminated for repeated offenses.
Please read the description of the event carefully before attending.

RESPONSIBILITY: I am not responsible for you. You are responsible for you and your minors. You should be self-sufficient and be able to find your way to safety in the event you find yourself on your own. I will not lead you back to the trailhead if you decide to turn back.
ASSUMPTION OF RISKS: You, for Yourself and for the minor participant, if any, ACKNOWLEDGE AND ASSUME the risks of the activity in which your or your child will be participating, whether or not those risks are described above and whether they are inherent or otherwise.
RELEASE OF LIABILITY: All participants take full responsibility for their own actions. If you choose to participate in any The EOA events, you are releasing the Eden Outdoor Adventures and it’s organizers from all liability in case of possible injuries, death including loss of or damage to property.
