Last Thursday, Brentwood Country Club’s athletes came out for a day full of camaraderie and friendly competition at their 66th Annual Jewish Federation Men’s Play Day! There were approximately 120 golfers and 25 tennis players in all—swinging, driving, putting and serving in support of our Federation’s life-changing work.
After the games had come to an end, Brentwood Campaign Co-Chair Darren Lewin welcomed club members and introduced Martin, Michael and Zane Koss who led the room in the motzi. Darren also acknowledged the committee for helping to make the day such a success, and thanked Co-Chair Ken Pressberg.
Freddie Reiss, President of Brentwood Country Club, encouraged club members to continue to contribute generously to support The Jewish Federation. Ken Pressberg then thanked Golf Chairs Andrew Kirsh and Ken Wofle, Tennis Chairs Larry Blivas and Robert Forst, and Golf Pro Patrick Casey and Tennis Pro Dave Smith for organizing the tournaments. Congratulations again to the two winning golf teams, Danny Levene, Paul Arenson, Steve Lovett, Alan Fragen, Benjy Deutch, Lou Gram, Ian Kravitz and the tennis champions, Steve Lovett, Joel Altshule, Evan Libaw, Bob Weingarten, Ori Marmur, Miles Rogers, Paul Arenson, Bill Bloomfield, Ralph Finerman, Larry Blivas, Ryan Blivas, for games well played in the name of tzedakah.
Les Bider, our Federation’s Chairman of the Board, made a powerful, heartfelt case for giving and approximately $750,000 has been raised from the guys at the event so far this year for our Federation’s 2014 Annual Campaign.

Then it was on to the evening’s main event. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the panel discussion with John “J.K.” McKay, the Senior Associate Athletic Director for Football at USC, and Jim Mora, the Head Coach of UCLA Football. Combining lively storytelling with friendly rivalry, these local college sports personalities offered the inside scoop on L.A.’s favorite college teams. In keeping with the day’s theme, the discussion moderator was American boxing commentator and sports talk radio host Max Kellerman.
Looking back on an entertaining day that highlighted sportsmanship, camaraderie and our shared impact on lives around the world, it’s easy to conclude that everybody at Brentwood came out a winner—most importantly, our Jewish community and the lives we impact together!
