In 2013, The Jewish Federation’s Community Engagement Strategic Initiative proved that Angelenos can make a great impact on our communities—so we’re building on last year’s success by holding our second annual ChangeMaker Challenge!
The ChangeMaker Challenge connects Angelenos in order to bring their ideas to life and make a civic impact in our city. It’s a way for the Jewish community to make Los Angeles a better place, and for Jews to build stronger partnerships throughout the city. We are seeking out innovative projects and will award microgrants of up to $5,000 to the best, most impactful ideas that address the following core issues: education, civic engagement, transportation, economic development and hunger. Contest winners are chosen based on their creativity and promise to confront some of L.A.’s biggest issues, while building bridges between the Jewish and greater Los Angeles communities.

In its inaugural year, over 100 applications were submitted, of which 13 projects received grants, including Proyecto Jardin, which engaged Boyle Heights residents to help reverse obesity trends by motivating young people to institutionalize local organic eating. The Come Together Youth Conferences exposed at-risk youth to positive role models. IKAR, in partnership with LA Voice-Pico, helped bridge the divide between diverse organizations through their faith-based community summit, impacting hundreds of lives.
We need you—and your great ideas—to make even more positive changes in L.A.! Our 2014 ChangeMaker Challenge is open now to any individual, group or organization in Los Angeles County with an innovative idea on how to make a meaningful impact on our city. Applicants are encouraged to show how their projects would strengthen ties between different ethnic, religious, cultural or geographic communities.
Submissions for the ChangeMaker Challenge will be accepted through October 6th, 2014. Apply now and be a part of hands-on change in L.A.!
