The horrific shooting in Pittsburgh and the devastating Woolsey Fires shook us as a community. During these tumultuous and traumatic times, one thing has remained consistent — our Federation’s steadfast commitment to our community, near and far. Our Federation is, and has been, the foundation of our Jewish community for well over 100 years. We have developed and built the infrastructure to respond to anything that comes our way. When crisis hit, we mobilized all of our resources and relationships to make the biggest and most immediate impact.
Our Federation is building, leading, and strengthening our community 365 days a year. When we learned about the events at Tree of Life, we immediately took action to support our brothers and sisters in Pittsburgh as well as ensure the safety and security of Los Angeles. Not even a week later, we were confronted with another crisis in our own backyard. Our 35,000-foot view, combined with our hands-on partnerships locally and throughout the world, allowed us to help the individuals, families, camps, synagogues, and schools affected by the L.A. Wildfires. These recent crises have left a large, traumatic imprint on our community. The rebuilding and recovering process is one that will take time. However, we are prepared to face anything that comes our way in the future — good or bad.
I am proud to lead — and even prouder to support — Jewish Federation Los Angeles because it is an organization that addresses every crisis and seizes every opportunity to make this community strong, safe, resilient, and vibrant.
This Sunday, February 10th, is Super Sunday — and it’s never been more critical to join us in these efforts by supporting our essential work. We need you to ensure that there are enough resources for our community today and in the future.
I would like to thank those who will be volunteering and calling community members on Sunday to bolster the impactful work of the Federation. Please join me in making a meaningful gift this Super Sunday.
Your gift will ensure that our Federation will continue to be the bedrock of our community, offering support at every twist and turn.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for standing with us, and thank you for your support.
Wishing you a meaningful Shabbat,
Jay Sanderson
