Federation Impact Update — February 2022

PROVIDING SUPPORT FOR JEWS IN UKRAINE

We are responding to the needs of the Jewish community in Ukraine. The entire country faces chaos, scarcity, and violence — and the almost 200,000 members of Ukraine’s Jewish community (40,000 of which are impoverished, including 10,000 Holocaust survivors) are especially vulnerable. Our Federation is committed to being a part of the global Jewish response to this crisis and is immediately raising and sending funds to support our brothers and sisters in Ukraine. Your gift provides urgent humanitarian aid and financial assistance, including delivering food, medicine, winter relief, and emergency assistance.

STANDING UP AGAINST ANTISEMITISM

Because it is important to shine a light on antisemitism, Rabbi Noah Farkas joined Jewish thought leaders Rabbi Susan Goldberg, Elisha Wiesel (son of Elie Wiesel), and moderator Maia Ferdman in a spirited idea exchange about strategies to combat hate. We are committed to providing security, speaking up for the Jewish community and Israel, and building coalitions throughout Los Angeles.

CELEBRATING JEWS WITH DIVERSE ABILITIES

February was Jewish Disability Awareness and Inclusion Month (JDAIM), a dedicated time during the year to honor and enrich the lives of Jews with diverse abilities. Through our Los Angeles Jewish Abilities Center (LAJAC), and with our community partners, we hosted the Pathways to Independence workshop for parents, caretakers, and self-advocates to learn ways to lead a life of happiness, dignity, and self-sufficiency for those with diverse abilities.
