Documenting History through Art – the Life & Art of David Labkovski

Free

The community is invited to a special virtual event hosted by the Malibu Jewish Community Synagogue with a virtual presentation by The David Labkovski Project “ Documenting history through Art with Leora Raikin, Founder & Executive Director and Director Education, Stephanie Wolfson.

The DLP uses the artwork of artist David Labkovski (1906-1991) as a tool to engage, enrich and educate audiences about life before, during, and after the Holocaust as well as the artist’s experience as a prisoner in Siberia and his later renewal in Israel. David Labkovski’s art documents a time of fear and uncertainty, but it also reflects the strength and resilience of the human spirit and the cathartic use of art to process trauma and heal. David Labkovski left the world a visual diary, a way for generations to come to connect with the past and become a witness to history. The visually engaging lecture will share the course of the artist’s David Labkovski’s life and the cutting edge educational initiative developed by the DLP that merges art, history and technology to educate about the Holocaust by understanding tones, brushstroke, color and shading to illustrate emotion and theme in Labkovski’s art within a personal and historic context.

The DLP exhibits and educational programs have been implemented in middle schools, high schools and universities in the U.S., Mexico, South Africa, and Lithuania.
