A Concert for Sugihara

Free

Symphony No. 6 “Vessels of Light”, a major new work for cello, chorus and orchestra by the acclaimed Soviet-born American composer Lera Auerbach, commemorates the heroism of Chiune Sugihara, the Japanese diplomat who clandestinely saved thousands of Jews during World War II from his post in Kaunas, Lithuania. It is dedicated to Sugihara and to all those who risk everything to save others. Featuring cello soloist Kristina Reiko Cooper and texts adapted from Yiddish poetry, the Symphony received its U.S. premiere at Carnegie Hall in April 2023 and its West Coast premiere at this concert.

The concert is free to the public, but a special pre-concert reception and preferred seating is available to 2023 American Society for Yad Vashem donors.
