Scott Edelman is extraordinarily engaged in the Los Angeles community and is a passionate advocate for the Jewish community. He and his wife Susan date their involvement in the Federation to 1996, when they participated in LA Couples, a program for emerging community leaders. Since then, in addition to supporting the Federation, Scott has served in multiple community leadership positions, most recently as President of Wilshire Boulevard Temple for the past three years. He has also been President of American Jewish Committee (AJC) Los Angeles, and currently serves on AJC’s National Board of Governors. In 2015, in recognition of his leadership in the legal profession, Scott received AJC’s Learned Hand Award, the highest honor AJC bestows on members of the bar. Scott is a past President of Bet Tzedek Legal Services and a former Chairman of the Board of KCET Public Television. He currently serves on the board of the Alliance for Children’s Rights and is an active member of Hillcrest Country Club.

This year, Scott will retire from Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher, after 40 years of practicing law in the firm’s Century City and Los Angeles offices. He is a member of the firm’s Executive Committee and the co-chair of its Media, Entertainment and Technology practice group. Scott was the firm’s first pro bono chair, and he helped build a pro bono department that is among the top law firm practices in the country. He has always taken great pride in collegiality within the profession and mentorship of younger lawyers.

Scott is a renowned trial lawyer and a member of both the American College of Trial Lawyers and the International Academy of Trial Lawyers. He has earned numerous accolades for his legal work. The Daily Journal ranked him as one of the Top 100 Lawyers in California, Lawdragon has repeatedly named him as one of the 500 Leading Litigators in America, and the Los Angeles Business Journal ranks him among its Leaders of Influence: Litigators & Trial Lawyers. The Hollywood Reporter named him a Legal Legend, a title reserved for “entertainment industry attorneys whose career achievements are extraordinary.” Scott has repeatedly been named to Variety’s annual Legal Impact Report, listing the leading lawyers in the entertainment industry, and he has been recognized as a top music lawyer by Billboard Magazine. Benchmark Litigation recently named him the West Coast Entertainment Litigator of the Year. AmLaw Litigation has twice named Scott the nationwide Litigator of the Week. Law360, which features lawyers who have earned “hard-earned successes in high-stakes litigation, complex global matters and record-breaking deals,” has repeatedly named Scott among its MVPs. He was recently among the 32 lawyers named to The National Law Journal’s “Winning Litigators” list of “star trial litigators” who “took on high-stakes matters and won.”

But if you ask Scott, the success of which he is the most proud is his family. Susan and Scott have been happily married for 30 years. They have three wonderful, accomplished grown daughters, Emily, Sarah, and Julia; and one amazing son-in-law, Emily’s husband Jordan.

Rep. Ritchie Torres is a fighter from the Bronx who has spent his entire life working for the community he calls home. Like many in the Bronx, poverty and struggle have never been abstractions to him. At 25, Ritchie became NYC’s youngest elected official and the first openly LGBTQIA+ person elected in the Bronx. He is a member of the Committee on Financial Services and the House Select Committee on the Strategic Competition between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party.

Eden Yadegar is a senior at Columbia University, where she is an outspoken advocate for Jewish students and against antisemitism. Eden served as president of Columbia Students Supporting Israel during and after October 7th, has testified before Congress, and is a plaintiff in a Title VI lawsuit against Columbia due to the university’s failure to protect Jewish students. She co-authored the viral “In Our Name” open letter from Jewish Columbia students, and has been featured on CNN, Fox News, 60 Minutes, and more.

Please honor Scott’s extraordinary contribution to the community and support our Federation’s critical mission by purchasing a sponsorship package to help make this evening an enormous success.
