Natural Disasters and our Response

I write to you this week at a time of great uncertainty as, for the second time in the past few weeks, our country and our neighbors are being threatened by yet another natural disaster. We mourn the loss of life and we recognize the dramatic impact on thousands who have lost or will lose their homes. We know that many of our community institutions, synagogues, and schools have and will suffer tremendous damage. We came together as a Federation family that extends beyond Los Angeles throughout our country to bring much needed support to those affected.

It is times like these that I am proud that we are Jewish Federation Los Angeles and proud to be a part of the Jewish Federations of North America. As one of 152 Federations across North America, together, we have the reach, expertise, and resources to respond to the greatest challenges facing us in the most difficult of times. We have already made a profound difference in Houston, and we are ready to do whatever is needed in the days ahead in Florida and the surrounding area.

We focus on the 4 Rs: Response, Relief, Rebuilding, and Renewal.

Our Federation is at the heart of Jewish community in Los Angeles and beyond. With the Jewish Federations of North America, we are the foundation of Jewish life in Los Angeles, Houston, Miami, and in every city and town where Jews live across North America.

This Shabbat, I hope you will join me in praying for those in harm’s way, especially in light of the inevitable impact of Hurricane Irma. And I hope you will stand with me in strengthening our commitment to the essential work of our Federation. We will continue to help all those in need. We are strongest when we join together.

Shabbat Shalom,

Jay Sanderson
President & CEO
