How Do We Keep Our Immigrant Communities Safe?

How Do We Keep Our Immigrant Communities Safe?

A Conversation About Building Trust Between Law Enforcement and the Communities They Serve

Opening Remarks by Mayor Eric Garcetti

Tuesday, September 5, 2017

6:30 PM: Reception with drinks and snacks

7:00 PM: Program begins sharply

Stalford Hall

Wilshire Boulevard Temple, Glazer Campus

Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti will provide opening remarks.  The panel discussion will be moderated by the Director of the American Jewish Committee (AJC)’s Los Angeles Region, Dan Schnur, and will include top leaders from the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department, the L.A.P.D., the Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund (MALDEF), and the Center for Asian Americans United For Self-Empowerment (CAUSE).

Few national issues affect our city, its social fabric, and economic status more than our national immigration laws and enforcement policies.  Recent changes under the new U.S. administration are already having a significant impact on communities here in Los Angeles and across the country.

This timely and important program, open to the public, is the first of a three-part AJC Community Series on Immigration and Refugee Policy, in partnership with MALDEF and CAUSE.  We will continue to gather throughout the fall to discuss immigration and refugee policy developments with top decision makers, experts, and community leaders.
