After Hurricane Harvey decimated Houston, 300,000 people were left without food, water or power. The city will be cleaning up the devastation and dealing with millions of dollars in property damage for many years to come.
As we welcome the New Year, our hearts and prayers are with the victims who are still coping with unfathomable hardship and loss. I invite you to join me and others from Los Angeles as we travel to Houston to help with the Jewish community’s recovery and relief efforts.
From Monday, November 6 thru Wednesday, November 8, we will do whatever is needed — clean homes, visit Jewish institutions, provide comfort to the elderly and children, and more. As Jews, we are mandated to support each other — and this hands-on expression of our concern is an opportunity to bring that Jewish value to life.
Here is the information you need to know to make plans:
Flight and Ground Transportation
Please arrange your own flights and transportation to and from the airport. Arrive in Houston by 4:00 PM on Monday, November 6th and we recommend securing departing flights no earlier than 7:00 PM on November 8th.
Hotel
A block of rooms has been secured at the Westin Galleria Houston. We will make a reservation for you once we know you are joining us. You will be billed accordingly. Room cost is $159.00 per night plus tax.
Other Costs
Lunch, dinner and transportation to and from all volunteer opportunities will be provided.
For more information on this service trip, contact Alisa Finsten at AFinsten@JewishLA.org or (323) 761-8077.
We hope you can join us as we fulfill our Federation’s responsibility as a global partner and leader by giving much-needed help to those who have lost so much. I can think of no more meaningful way to begin the New Year.
Thank you,
Jay Sanderson
