On Partnering with The Jewish Federation and Healing the LGBTQ Community

For LGBTQ Jews, living with a dual identity can be challenging to navigate. We’re a minority within our own minorities: Jewish in LGBTQ community spaces, LGBTQ in Jewish spaces. Without resources that embody both of these facets of our lives, it can feel like we don’t know how to embrace our whole selves.

Through years of soul searching and community building, the Jewish LGBTQ nonprofit JQ International has evolved to provide space for queer-identified Jews to move beyond being tolerated into thriving. We practice our traditions, host events, and, of course, we celebrate!

Growing in this way takes more than words of good faith on paper. Our participation in Federation’s NextGen Engagement Initiative (NEI) has strengthened who we are organizationally, and the tremendous financial support from the Federation has fueled so much of our growth.

We’re also able to accomplish a great deal through the help of dedicated volunteers. Members of The Jewish Federation have contributed several hours of their time each week to the cause, helping us do everything from legwork to speaking at our events and strategizing on communication to creating high-level graphics for promotion.

With The Jewish Federation active and working compassionately by our side, we create something real. That’s especially vital for the work we’re doing and toward our mission to build and strengthen a community that nurtures a healthy fusion of LGBTQ and Jewish identities. We’re proud to do this work together.
