Make Super Sunday the Big Finish of our Super Weekend

What starts with 1,000 Shabbat Celebrations this Friday, February 19th and ends with Super Sunday on Sunday, February 21st? It’s our Super Weekend, one weekend with two ways to participate in our community! It culminates with Super Sunday, our Federation’s annual community fundraising day, a tradition that has supported our life-changing work in Los Angeles, Israel and more than 70 countries for more than three decades.

Each year, hundreds of volunteers become superheroes by spending a few hours of their Sunday passionately talking on the phone to members of our community to thank them for their past generosity and ask them to once again support our Federation’s programs and initiatives. The camaraderie, power of tikkun olam and excitement garnered by frequent updates of the total money raised make this volunteer day one that people come back to year after year.

“You get lost in the excitement of doing so much good for the community,” said long-time volunteer Irwin Jacobson. “The energy in the room is electric and inspiring. Everyone has something to offer.”

It’s not too late to be a superhero and volunteer this Sunday, February 21st! There are two convenient shifts available in both our City and Valley locations. Join us for a free breakfast or lunch — or both!

If you live in the Valley and think sleeping in sounds much more fun than volunteering on Super Sunday, think again! To entice you to wake up energized, the Valley is hosting a bagel and cream cheese bar, a fruit cart, and Glatt Kosher food truck The Holy Grill. Our Valley location is also having a raffle and a special young adult calling session beginning at 2:00 PM.

“It’s incredibly powerful when our community unites for Super Sunday,” said Lori Tessel, Chief Development Officer of The Jewish Federation Valley Alliance. “It’s a day for our staff, lay leaders, donors, and even people we’ve helped to get to know one another, work together for a common goal, and be reminded of what an impact we really make.”

If you’re passionate about our Jewish community and want to do your part to touch lives this year, then please sign up to volunteer on Super Sunday!

“Super Sunday volunteers believe deeply in the work of our Federation, which is why it is particularly meaningful to them when they are able to get other community members to join them in supporting our work,” said Mitch Hamerman, Senior VP of Federation’s Campaign Management and Communications. “In fact, many members of our community look forward to receiving the call each year. It’s a tradition about which they feel strongly, and we do too.”

Though many have already signed up, our Federation still needs more superheroes to make this year’s Super Sunday a success. Funds raised support our Federation’s work caring for Jews in need, engaging with the community and ensuring the Jewish future — that’s why we need your participation!

“History has shown that the more people who volunteer on Super Sunday, the greater our results,” said Irwin Jacobson. “It’s just the seed planting day, but those seeds grow throughout the year into hundreds of beautiful trees that reach out to thousands and thousands of people.”

We can think of no more eloquent way to put it than that!

If you are unable to join us as a volunteer on Super Sunday, please answer the call and give generously. And if you are unavailable by phone, please make your gift now.
