On June 3rd, Jewish Federation Los Angeles held its third Community Service Day of the year. We’re proud that more than 200 dedicated volunteers came out and participated in hands-on projects promoting fun and safety to over 1,000 children throughout Los Angeles!

At our Federation’s annual Gear Up for Camp Day, volunteers distributed supplies to underserved children so that they will be properly equipped for a session at Camp Max Straus in Glendale, the local resident camp of Jewish Big Brothers Big Sisters of Los Angeles. Volunteers also helped serve food, play sports, assist with arts and crafts, and danced to DJ tunes with the campers and their families. Most importantly, the kids had a blast!
Many of our Federation groups came out in force to help us including members of our Community Service Days Working Group and YALA Social Action Committee. Additionally, Gear Up for Camp Day would not be possible without the support of our amazing local businesses who so generously donated their time and resources to help make this event a success. Over at Vista Del Mar on the Westside, our volunteers participated in Summer Safety Day, an afternoon of education and fun for families raising children with special needs. Volunteers participated in sports, arts and crafts, puppet shows and other activities with the children and their siblings. This was a wonderful opportunity to work directly with families who learned about safety from the Red Cross, as well as the Los Angeles Police and Fire Departments. The event was held in partnership with HaMercaz, FACT, and The Vista Inspire Program.
