Friendship and community are bedrock values that we cherish. In April, we put these values in action with Passover activities that brought warmth and togetherness to people of many different ages and backgrounds.
BUILDING BRIDGES OF UNDERSTANDING THROUGH OUR INTERFAITH SEDER
We shared our love of our traditions with our friends from diverse communities during our Interfaith Passover Seder. In partnership with the Museum of Tolerance, LA vs Hate, and the Los Angeles County Commission on Human Relations, we brought together the Jewish community, interfaith, civic, and elected leaders for a night of connection centered on Passover’s universal themes of resilience, perseverance, and freedom from discrimination. The evening celebrated our shared heritage of overcoming hardship with the vibrant communities that make Los Angeles such a special, inclusive place to call home. Our friends left with a better understanding of Passover and a feeling of unity that will bring our city closer together.

SHARING PASSOVER JOY WITH OLDER ADULTS AND HOLOCAUST SURVIVORS
Honoring our elders is a value we hold dear. During our BAR Center Passover Seder, older adults and Holocaust survivors celebrated our traditions in a nurturing environment that gave them a warm sense of community. We hosted this uplifting event alongside our partners at Jewish Family Service LA. With the Pacific Ocean providing an inspirational setting, the seder nourished all the older adults and Holocaust survivors who attended and let them feel loved by a community who treasures them.
Our Caring for Jews in Need (CJIN) team honors older adults and Holocaust survivors all year round. Visit CJIN’s site to find out more about this vital work at JewishLA.org/CJIN.
CREATING MEMORABLE PASSOVER EXPERIENCES FOR YOUNG ADULTS
We embrace the value of passing our traditions on to younger generations. Collective Escape is our annual citywide celebration of Passover for young adults. Through in-person events, and more than 50 seders and dinners in homes across L.A., this festival reimagines the holiday in innovative ways. We started with “Our Burn”, a ritual fire in an outdoor camp that helped release negative emotions that had built up from the challenges of the past year. “Seder & Song: An Asian Jewish Passover” was another fun and meaningful event we supported, hosted by The LUNAR Collective. This is just a taste of Collective Escape, which connects young Jews to our traditions in creative, community-building ways.
