Gearing Up for the 2015 Special Olympics World Summer Games

Get ready, Los Angeles, because the 2015 Special Olympics World Summer Games are coming in less than a month! From July 25th – August 2nd, L.A. will host the 2015 World Games — a touching celebration of athletic inclusion and achievement. As “Fans in the Stands,” our Federation will be cheering the tennis competitors at UCLA on Thursday, July 30th, at 4:00 PM — sign up today and come join us!

Over 40 Israeli competitors will be among the more than 7,000 Special Olympics athletes from 177 countries competing this year. Leading up to the start of the World Games, our Federation blog will feature weekly entries from several of the Israeli athletes — part of the Israeli delegation that will compete in Cycling, Athletics, Bocce, Bowling, Basketball, Kayaking, Swimming, Open Water Swimming, and Tennis.

Started in 1968, the Special Olympics World Games has become one of the most powerful vehicles for promoting equality, acceptance, and inclusion for people with intellectual disabilities. This summer’s World Games will feature 25 sports competitions and serve as the largest sporting event Los Angeles has seen since the 1984 Olympics. The world will convene in our city to support athletes living out their dreams and celebrate their victories — you won’t want to miss it!

Supporting the World Games with our presence and enthusiasm is just one way we fulfill our Federation’s commitment to inclusion. We hope you can join us on July 30th and be a part of the world’s largest sports and humanitarian event in 2015! And don’t forget to check our blog for inspirational posts from the Israeli athletes!
