The Jewish Federation hosted a special Jewish Community Welcome Reception for Elected Officials on February 28th, convening the local Jewish community to greet our new and veteran elected officials at the local and State levels. Co-sponsored by 15 Jewish organizations, a total of over 36 organizations represented by lay leaders and staff were in attendance, as well as nearly 100 community leaders – all of whom had the opportunity to meet with 31 elected officials or their staff.
Federation Chairman, Richard V. Sandler, introduced the keynote speaker of the evening, Speaker of the California Assembly John A. Pérez, followed by remarks from Catherine Schneider, our Federation’s Senior Vice President, Community Engagement.
Many, if not all, of the organizations represented that night implement programs, work with specific populations or are otherwise impacted by local and state legislation and budgets. It is often difficult to arrange an in-person meeting with an elected official, especially as their offices may be in Sacramento or their field offices are not conveniently located to the community member. Thus, the event was beneficial in offering these groups access to their elected officials, so they could create and grow relationships while having their voices heard.
The event was organized by our Federation’s Community Engagement team, as part of its ongoing efforts to build strong relationships with civic leaders and elected officials on behalf of our Jewish community, as we partner to create a better Los Angeles.
