Sunday May 4, 2014 Mount Disappointment to San Gabriel Peaks via Red Box
Rating: Intermediate Trailhead time: 9:30 A.M.
Description:
Enjoy this approximately six (6) mile 1400 ft. elevation gain hike through Spruce, Oak and brush that shade the trail as you begin the steep climb along this switch back route to the top of Mt. Disappointment and later San Gabriel Peak on this fun exploratory hike.

What to Bring:
The weather forecast calls for cool temperatures in the 60’s therefore layers of warm clothes, gloves, ear muffs and a hat are recommended for this hike.
Bring two liters of water, lunch, snacks, hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, hiking boots or shoes with good traction, daypack, hiking sticks or hiking poles, long pants and long sleeved shirt. Clothes should be loose fitting, and light-colors are preferable.
Footwear: Hiking boots or shoes with good traction. Absolutely no sandals or open toed shoes.

WEST SIDE PICO BLVD CARPOOL: 8:20 A.M. Leaving at 8:25 A.M. Meet at the municipal parking lot on the south side of Pico Blvd west of Robertson blvd between Robertson blvd and Livona ave next to B’ Nai David Congregation 8906 Pico Blvd L.A. 90035. Form your own carpools and please share the cost of transportation and parking, if any, with the driver.

Fwy 10 E, 7 miles to 110 N, 4 miles to 5 N, 2 miles to 2 N, 7.6 miles to 210 E, 1.2 miles to Angeles Crest Highway 2 exit. Go to traffic light and make a left (N) on highway 2.( Meet at the Angeles Crest Highway Carpool location below before proceeding further to consolidate carpools.)

Meet on Angeles Crest Highway just north of freeway 210 on the right side at Milmada Dr (Sierra Club carpool point). For your GPS you can use the following address to get you there:

Directions to Trailhead Take the Angeles Crest Highway (CA 2) northwest for about 14 miles (4 miles past the turnoff for Switzer Picnic Area). Turn Right on to Mount Wilson Red Box Road (After mile marker 38). Drive 1/3 of a mile and make the first right on the Mount Disappointment Fire Road. The road leads up to a small parking lot where we meet. Display your adventure pass on your windshield.

CONDITIONS TO PARTICIPATE!!!!
Please allow plenty of time flexibility when participating in our hikes / activities!
If you are unsure of your fitness level please join us on one of our easier hikes before doing any advanced hikes. We would recommend that you can walk at least 6 miles before coming on any of our hikes.
It is not appropriate to RSVP for an event and not show up. Members can be terminated for repeated offenses.
Please read the description of the event carefully before attending.
I am a volunteer (i.e. not liable for the group). Safety is a priority for everyone in the group. Think of this as hiking with a group of friends.
