We hope that you and your family are healthy and safe. We recognize that this crisis has unsettled all of us and that we all have friends and family dealing with this virus. You are in our thoughts and prayers.
Our Federation deeply cares about our entire community. We are intensifying our efforts to care for our most vulnerable and to strengthen our community.
The following are just a few of the strategies and programs we are implementing to achieve these goals:
The Jewish Federation’s Community Call Line
If you or someone you know needs access to social services including financial assistance, please contact The Jewish Federation’s Community Call Line at (323) 761-8305.
Jewish Federation Town Hall
We are living in a time that is new for all of us. It is troubling and rife with uncertainty. We find comfort in expert knowledge and in concrete answers to the countless questions we have about the novel health threat that is now omnipresent. Addressing our Jewish communal needs is what our Federation does best. On Monday, April 6th, at 3:00 PM, we will hold a virtual Jewish Federation Town Hall featuring Cedars-Sinai’s Chief Medical Officer Dr. Richard V. Riggs and Founder/Senior Rabbi of IKAR Sharon Brous to provide the answers and spiritual guidance our community needs right now. As a close partner and friend of The Jewish Federation, Dr. Riggs will give us his unique insight into the current situation. We are proud to be the conduit for exclusive access to a can’t-miss discussion on the joint efforts of our Federation and Cedars-Sinai to keep us all healthy — today, tomorrow, and well into the future. Please share this information widely, especially with those you know who are most vulnerable.
Small Business and Nonprofit Loan Information
We are so pleased that last week Congress passed the Coronavirus Aid Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act that will provide critical relief to so many during these very challenging times. Jewish Federation Los Angeles was instrumental in advocating for not only the passage of this legislation, but also ensuring that it included key provisions to help support nonprofit organizations. To access up-to-date information on federal small business loans for Jewish nonprofits affected by the COVID-19 crisis, visit Jewish Federations of North America for information and eligibility requirements.
NuRoots Virtual Passover Experience for Young Adults
NuRoots, our Federation’s Young Adult Initiative, is bringing you Collective Escape, the virtual edition! The experience will feature live gatherings, creative resources, and new tools to reimagine, share, and participate in Passover — wherever you are.
Virtual Workshops for Parents of Teens and College Students
- In this unprecedented time of social distancing, it’s even harder to know how to help when we sense our teens are anxious or depressed. Our LA Jewish Teen Initiative hosted a free, insightful, and practical workshop via Zoom that had 70 participants. Led by expert professionals, parents learned how to use positive, strengths-based approaches to better communicate with their teens, how to support them in managing their feelings, and ways to utilize Jewish values to complement positive parenting.
- As our community’s sons and daughters practice physical distancing and return home from their schools, parents are now faced with a new reality as they adjust to this significant life change. Our partners at Hillel at USC hosted the first of many virtual parent workshops and provided strategies and insights to help families get through this stressful and unpredictable new home life.
Providing for Our Most Vulnerable Community Members During Passover
We are committed to ensuring that all members of our community can observe Passover in a meaningful and safe manner. Through our city’s robust synagogue system, our Federation is providing and delivering Passover meals to those in need throughout the holiday.
Our Federation is staying on top of our community’s short- and long-term challenges connected to this crisis. We are here with you and ready and prepared to get through it together.
Best wishes for a meaningful — albeit challenging — Pesach,
Jay Sanderson
