We Remember Max Steinberg, San Fernando Valley Native and IDF Soldier Killed in Gaza

It is with great sorrow that we mourn the loss of Max Steinberg (z”l), a San Fernando Valley native and a soldier in the Golani Brigade of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), was killed Sunday along with 12 other soldiers in the Gaza Strip amidst an Israeli operation to quell rocket fire and destroy underground smuggling tunnels.

Max attended Pierce College and El Camino Real High School and went on a Birthright-Israel trip.  He was inspired to return to Israel and join the IDF in December 2012.  He was a sniper in Golani and was living in the city of Beersheba.

Our thoughts are with his family and our community is committed to support them in any way they need – and to honor Max’s memory.

May G-d comfort his family among the other mourners of Zion and Jerusalem.

On behalf of the Steinberg family and out of respect for their privacy, we are collecting condolence e-mails at WeRememberMax@JewishLA.org and letters at We Remember Max, Jewish Federation Los Angeles, 6505 Wilshire Blvd., Suite 900/CS, Los Angeles 90048.
