Engagement opportunities for individuals with special needs
Our partner offers adults with developmental disabilities the opportunity to socialize and build social skills that help keep them connected to and engaged with each other and the Jewish community.
Throughout the year, ETTA clients participate in Shabbatons hosted by various synagogues throughout the Greater Los Angeles area. These Shabbatons offer clients wonderful opportunities for community inclusion, guided by trained ETTA staff and youth volunteers. Clients spend Shabbat together at a host home with a teen volunteer and are offered opportunities to increase their knowledge of and participation in Jewish life. Every Shabbaton weekend culminates in an exciting and fun-filled group activity where clients create new and lasting friendships. If you are interested in opening your home to host an ETTA Shabbaton, or have a loved one who would like to participate, contact Leah Schachter at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Friendship Circle of Los Angeles
Provides social and recreational opportunities, like winter and summer camp experiences, for children and teenagers with special needs and their families. Featured activities are similar to those available to their typical peers and include sports and field trips.
This initiative builds communication, social skills, community, and greater self-esteem for individuals with autism and other disabilities through inclusive theater and expressive arts programs.
