The Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles Announces Generous Matching Challenge Grant from the Jewish Community Foundation of Los Angeles to Raise Funds for Holocaust Survivors in Los Angeles

Los Angeles, CA – The Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles proudly announces a matching grant of $250,000 from the Jewish Community Foundation of Los Angeles (The Foundation) for the Federation’s Save our Survivors initiative. This matching dollar grant will provide an opportunity to double the impact of the funds raised to help more Holocaust survivors living in poverty in Los Angeles. Every dollar raised up to $250,000 will be met by The Foundation for this initiative.

The Federation’s Save Our Survivors initiative seeks to raise $1.2 million to provide urgent home-care services for the 3,000 Holocaust survivors living in poverty in Los Angeles, in partnership with Jewish Family Service. In-home care includes: transportation to doctor visits, personal care, light housekeeping, and grocery shopping.

Jay Sanderson, President & CEO of The Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles said, “Over and over again, the Jewish Community Foundation has stepped forward to partner with us to face the biggest challenges in our community. We are so deeply appreciative of their leadership and partnership on this project and many others. We look forward to continuing to collaborate, partner, and positively impact our community together.”

“One of our greatest responsibilities is to ensure the well-being of Holocaust survivors,” said Marvin I. Schotland, President & CEO of the Jewish Community Foundation of Los Angeles, “and we are proud to partner with The Jewish Federation in this life-saving campaign. We hope that by providing a matching challenge grant, we will inspire many others to support this vital effort of rahamanut (compassion), empowered by the knowledge that their charitable dollars will make twice the impact.”

The Federation and The Foundation hope this matching grant will encourage more donors to make a gift to help those in need in the Los Angeles community. Every $25.00 provides an hour of in-home care, therefore this matching grant immediately doubles the hours that will be funded.

The Foundation has been a longtime strategic partner of The Jewish Federation, working together on many initiatives that create long-lasting and deep impact on the Jewish community.
