The Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles’ Young Leadership Engagement Efforts Get a Boost

Alexi Biener, Los Angeles Federation Professional, Selected as Next Gen Jewish Federation Fellow

Los Angeles, CA – The Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles is committed to creating meaningful experiences that engage young adults with Jewish community. This is part of the Federation’s broader mission and vision for a vibrant collective Jewish present and future. In this regard, The Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles is proud to announce that thanks to an effort led by The Jewish Federations of North America (JFNA), their work with people in their 20s and 30s will advance even further.

Selected from among a group of peers from across the continent, Los Angeles Federation professional Alexi Biener has been named a Next Gen Jewish Federations Fellow. The 18-month comprehensive program, made possible by a generous investment from the Jim Joseph Foundation, offers participants the tools and training they need to lead this critically important work. Joining forces for the first time, JFNA has brought together the North Carolina-based Center for Creative Leadership and the Jerusalem-based M2: The Institute for Experiential Jewish Education to develop coursework and meaningful experiences that grow Federation professionals’ leadership skills and connects them more deeply to Judaism. The new initiative will also position the professionals as innovators and leaders in the Jewish Next Gen space.

Jay Sanderson, President & CEO of The Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles, said, “We are proud to announce that our Donor Experience Associate Alexi Biener has been accepted to The Jewish Federations of North America’s Next Gen Jewish Federation Fellowship. Along with 22 other Federation staff from across the nation, Alexi will gain the skills and training to strengthen her role at the Federation as she continues to connect young leaders throughout Los Angeles to our Federation’s impactful work, while also helping to develop their leadership skills.  We are excited for Alexi to represent our Los Angeles Federation, and look forward to seeing her work continue to flourish throughout the Fellowship. She has already contributed immensely to our work in Los Angeles. Congratulations Alexi!”

Alexi Biener, Donor Experience Associate at The Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles and Next Gen Jewish Federation Fellow said, “This work is personal and deeply rooted in my identity. It is why I feel so passionately about working at the Federation, where I am doing my best to ensure that my generation, and the generations that follow, continue to feel connected to something larger than themselves. Our work impacts lives every day, and I’m so honored to have been selected to represent that on a national level alongside peers and colleagues in the Next Gen space. This Fellowship will help me evolve my way of thinking, reinvigorate how I see our young adult philanthropy efforts, and challenge me to take our work to new heights.”

The Fellowship will include leadership development, Jewish enrichment, coaching, mentoring and a supervised applied learning project.  Fellows will participate in four face-to-face seminars, beginning in May, and will provide mentorship for two early career colleagues to help build capacity in our community and across the Federation movement.  This program will help us significantly increase our engagement of next gen young Jews and deepen their commitment to Jewish life.
