May is Jewish American Heritage Month

Established in 2006, Jewish American Heritage Month (JAHM) commemorates more than 350 years of Jewish history in America. In the face of an alarming rise in antisemitic attacks and rhetoric, it is more vital than ever to embrace Jewish identity and culture. The Jewish Federation of Geater Los Angeles believes that the antidote to hate in all its forms is to live our best Jewish lives. JAHM is an exciting opportunity to come together and celebrate the many ways Jews have positively impacted American society.  

We are thrilled to share with you several upcoming local programs taking place throughout the month that The Jewish Federation is proud to co-sponsor! 

Here are two events, please register and join us: 

Coming Together: Combating Hate in a Polarized Society – May 12th at 4:00 PM 

In recognition of Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) and Jewish American Heritage Months, Jewish Federation Los Angeles is thrilled to join American Jewish Committee (AJC) Los Angeles, the California Department of Justice, and the Asian Pacific American Leadership Foundation (APALF) for a screening of the award-winning documentary, The Race Epidemic at Holocaust Museum LA, followed by a panel discussion with several of the city’s most prominent AAPI and Jewish American leaders about how to best address the alarming rise of hate crimes against both communities.

Jewish Community Mural Project and Unveiling Block Party 

All month, in partnership with LA vs Hate’s Solidarity Mural program and the Anti-Defamation League, we are helping shape the design of a new mural by artist and muralist Cloe Shadee Hakakian. The mural will highlight LA’s beautiful diversity, an important lens through which to understand Los Angeles Jews. Save the date of June 4th for our mural unveiling block party in Pico-Robertson! Join us for an afternoon of art, music, solidarity, and fun for the whole family.
