Federation Impact Update — March 2022

SENDING SUPPORT TO THE UKRAINIAN BORDER

Our Federation is deeply committed to our Jewish family in Ukraine and has mobilized to help them. Federation leadership, including President and CEO Rabbi Noah Farkas and General Campaign Chair Lynn Bider, traveled to the Ukrainian border to support the humanitarian effort. We met with partners on the ground who help provide food, medical care, winter relief, temporary housing, and transportation. It is the work we do every day, the infrastructure and relationships we have developed with our partners over the past 100+ years, that allows us to provide immediate emergency support to the region. We strengthen the global Jewish community — these moments of great despair are being met with great humanity.

FOSTERING THE NEXT GENERATION OF JEWISH LEADERS

Through our many leadership programs, we enhance the lives of young adults and provide the resources they need to make a difference in the Jewish community. We have recruited two cohorts, one for our Community Leadership Institute (CLI), where we train young adults to take on some of our Jewish community’s greatest challenges, and one for our Rautenberg New Leadership Project (NLP), where young adults prepare for civic leadership through a Jewish lens. Earlier this month, we hosted an NLP retreat at BAR Center at the Beach, where we welcomed 26 new NLP members. Alumni of these programs have taken on leadership roles at the local and state levels of government, in social impact and Jewish non-profit organizations, and on Federation committees and our Board.

HONEYMOON ISRAEL

We are committed to enriching Jewish lives and deepening our connection to Israel. A diverse group of couples from L.A. participated in Honeymoon Israel, an unforgettable 9-day trip to the homeland. This cohort of Jewish, LGBTQ, and inter-faith couples engage in open-ended conversation and explore the role of Judaism and Israel in their lives.
