Jewish Community Relations Committee

Doing what we can to make the world a better place isn't a new idea for the Jewish community. It's part of who we are. And while the fulfillment of the mandate to heal the world might start with helping a child learn to read or writing a letter to the editor, it doesn't stop there. In Judaism, active participation in the well-being of the greater community is not just a one-time obligation – it's a way of life. The JCRC has three goals:

  • To speak out on and impact governmental policy
  • To be a passionate advocate for Israel and World Jewry
  • To stand up for social justice

For over 60 years we've served as a voice of the Los Angeles Jewish community, speaking out on issues of public policy, functioning as a political advocate, taking on the challenges of social welfare in a city of seismic level changes, and articulating a range of positions on world events as they affect Israel and Jewish communities throughout the Diaspora.

Legislators Mission
From November 7-16, 2007, a group of California legislators experienced Israel, most for the first time. They traveled with The Jewish Federation on a special trip that included visits to various historical sites and successful programs funded by the Federation, and meetings with their counterparts in the Israeli government to discuss shared challenges and best practices. Each day of the trip, one legislator wrote reflections on their experience. We have posted them all here.
